Dance Machines

A multiplayer VR dance workshop for children aged 11 and up, exploring what the dance lessons of the future could look like. Participants share an immersive virtual environment where they follow motion-captured contemporary dance instructors, their choreography recorded and mapped onto custom avatars, while also moving together and interacting with each other and the virtual world around them.

Led by Brazilian choreographer Regina Rossi alongside Studio für Unendliche Möglichkeiten, the project was built in Unreal Engine 4 with motion capture via Axis Neuron Pro, running across multiple HTC Focus 3 headsets.

Premiered at Kampnagel/K3 Hamburg in June 2022 and at THINK BIG! Munich in July 2022. Has since toured across schools in Germany and Brazil and continues to be shown.
