Neue Stimmen

A VR opera experience developed with Studio für Unendliche Möglichkeiten and Staatstheater Augsburg. Professional opera singers were invited to reimagine how they could perform within a new medium. From those conversations, each singer was recorded in a full motion capture suit performing their chosen piece, their movements and voice captured together, their presence shaped into a custom avatar built around their own vision of how they wanted to appear.

The result is an intimate show of different performances, experienced one after another in VR. Free from the conventions of the opera stage, the singers explore what the medium makes possible: teleporting across virtual spaces, conjuring objects out of thin air, using special effects that no physical stage could offer, all while performing directly to the camera with an intimacy that traditional opera rarely allows.

Built in Unreal Engine with motion capture via Axis Neuron Pro, shipped to VR headsets directly to audiences at home. Premiered at Staatstheater Augsburg in 2024.
